The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) modulates our climate, including being a potential cause of rapid change. New observations over the last decade or so have revealed surprising aspects of the AMOC and led to a reconsideration of its stability and variability, its role in physical and biogeochemical components of the climate system, and its representation in climate models.
